Botanica’s first house gets off the ground 11/04/2003
The Whitsundays’ only waterfront land subdivision is taking
shape as the area’s most exclusive suburb, with the estate’s
first home currently under construction.
After years of planning, Ralph and Janet Hogan’s labour
of love, Rumrock II, is coming to fruition, with breathtaking views
over the Coral Sea, framed by elegant 6 metre green cane palms
and overlooking the dramatic granite boulders of the Pioneer Bay
foreshore.
“This is the most magical spot on the coast,” says
owner, Janet Hogan. “At dusk, the only sounds are the lapping
water and wading sea birds. Airlie, so close, seems just a distant
buzz in the background. As the sun sets, the view becomes a fantasy
of lights dotting the coastline.”
The organically inspired house flows out onto sweeping 5 metre
verandahs, built to make the most of the gentle sea breezes and
the spectacular wraparound views of islands and mainland.
Materials for the house have been specially commissioned in Bali
and include Javanese “tequila sunrise” marble floor
tiles, botanical stone friezes for the courtyard walls, turned
timber verandah columns, intricate carved timber room dividers,
ironwood roofing shingles, giant 1.3 metre solid stone garden urns,
3 metre high Indian front doors and la pièce de résistance:
a massive entrance way carved out of Banyan root, unearthed in
a tiny mountain village in Bali.
The Hogan’s next project is to source similar materials
to incorporate in house and land packages on Botanica estate, with
the aim of creating tropical homes with a unique character and
charm.
“There is so much off the rack architecture around that
really doesn’t do justice to the dramatic sea and mountain
backdrop of the Whitsundays. This is our opportunity to provide
a unique product which provides residents with a really special
living environment that is in harmony with Botanica’s beautiful,
natural surroundings.”
Botanica Waterfront will be an exclusive community of only 20
homes.
5 lots have already been sold with contracts out on a further 3.
However, there is still ample opportunity to secure what is undoubtedly
the most spectacular land in the Whitsundays. Generous ½ acre,
gently sloping waterfront lots, with their front boundary just
5 metres from the water’s edge, start from $395,000 and elevated
view lots, $250,000. The development features underground power,
town water, entry via a private palm-lined avenue, exclusive access
to picturesque Mast Beach, covenants and by-laws to protect residents’ investment
and lifestyle…all just 8 minutes from the heart of Airlie
Beach.
House and land packages start from $465,000, for a tropical style
3 bedroom house with spacious open plan design with cathedral ceilings,
stylish cedar doors and louvres, stainless steel kitchen appliances,
built-in wardrobes and generous verandahs to take in the breathtaking
views.
